Fighting for Responsible Energy Policy
I wrote to Governor Cuomo in August 2019 to express my concerns about the proposed siting for the Bluestone Energy Project, which would bring 26 670-foot wind turbines to Broome County. While projects like this are critical for fighting climate change, the proposed site for these turbines lies in an area with high numbers of Bald and Golden Eagles. Building turbines in the migratory paths of these birds will inevitably lead to many deaths, and while Bald Eagles have moved off the endangered species list due to conservation efforts, Golden Eagles remain endangered. Renewable energy cannot come at the price of the very wildlife we are trying to save, and the current plan for the Bluestone Project poses an unacceptable level of risk. It is my hope that the risks to these birds will be considered and another site will be chosen.
